You can visit Halong Bay and Ninh Binh in two full days by taking a Halong day cruise on day one and exploring Ninh Binh on day two. Start from Hanoi or Hai Phong, and decide where to sleep before booking: return to Hanoi for two separate day trips, or travel directly from the cruise port to Ninh Binh and stay there overnight.
This is a busy itinerary, particularly if you arrive in Ninh Binh late after the cruise. It works with a day cruise; a two-day, one-night Halong cruise still occupies part of your second day, so allow a third day if you want an overnight boat trip and a worthwhile Ninh Binh visit.
Choose your overnight stop first
- Stay in Hanoi: useful if you want to keep the same hotel, leave your main luggage there, and join a group tour each day. You will return from Halong in the evening and leave Hanoi again early the next morning.
- Stay in Tam Coc or elsewhere in Ninh Binh: useful if you want to avoid going back through Hanoi and begin day two near the attractions. You must organize the port transfer, take your luggage with you, and arrange a late hotel check-in.

The Halong Bay to Ninh Binh transfer offers shared and private options. Allow roughly three and a half hours of road travel as a starting estimate, with additional time for boarding, stops, traffic, and your exact destination. After a full six-hour cruise, expect a late arrival.
The evening shared service ends at Tam Coc Boat Station rather than providing a late-night hotel drop-off. Arrange the final ride to your accommodation, tell the hotel when you expect to arrive, and ask whether food will still be available. A private transfer can take you to the agreed hotel; give the driver its full address and map pin.
Match the transfer to your actual cruise port and disembarkation time. Tuan Chau and Halong International Cruise Port are different pickup points, and a bus departure close to the boat’s scheduled return needs coordination. Day two: explore Ninh Binh without overloading the route

Choose a Ninh Binh day tour from Hanoi with the stops you actually want. Options include Hoa Lu and Trang An, combinations with Tam Coc or Bai Dinh, and routes that add Hang Mua.
Expect an early pickup and an evening return to Hanoi. Check the selected itinerary’s inclusions: a package with Bai Dinh may charge separately for the electric car, and different routes have different activities. This Hanoi departure should not be treated as a guaranteed pickup from a Ninh Binh hotel.
If you slept in Ninh Binh
Arrange a local driver or private guide, or plan your own transport between the stops. Agree on the hotel pickup, attraction order, lunch break, and final drop-off before leaving. Starting locally removes the morning drive from Hanoi, but a late arrival the previous night is a good reason to keep the day manageable.
- For scenery and history: combine Trang An with Hoa Lu, allowing time to enjoy the boat trip and temple visit.
- For a viewpoint: combine a Trang An or Tam Coc boat trip with Hang Mua if everyone is comfortable with a steep stair climb. Leave it out in unsuitable weather or when the group needs a gentler day.

- Hanoi: a Hanoi-based group tour normally includes its stated return. If you are sightseeing independently from Ninh Binh, arrange a private Ninh Binh to Hanoi transfer to your agreed hotel or city destination.
- Hai Phong: book a Ninh Binh to Hai Phong transfer with a pickup that fits your final attraction and luggage collection.
- Another night in Ninh Binh: stay if you want a slower finish or more time in the countryside the following morning.
A city drop-off is not the same as an airport transfer. If you need a flight connection, specify the airport and required arrival time before settling the sightseeing schedule.
