Ha Long, Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long Cruise Itineraries

Listen to this page Hands-free overview

Ha Long, Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long cruise itineraries differ most in their activity stops and the time you spend exploring. For a single-day trip, compare Ha Long’s cave-and-island routes with a Lan Ha program built around kayaking, rowing and swimming stops. For Bai Tu Long, plan an overnight cruise.

Choose the places you want to visit before comparing cabins or onboard facilities. A bay name in a cruise title can describe the waters you pass through, while the actual excursions happen elsewhere. The routes below help you compare day trips, two days and one night, and three days and two nights.

Choose the trip length first

  • About four hours on the bay: a shorter Ha Long route around Thien Cung, Dau Go and Ba Hang, with time for a cave visit and a small-boat activity.
  • A longer day cruise: enough time for the Sung Sot–Luon–Titov combination in Ha Long, or selected Lan Ha water activities, depending on the boat.
  • Two days and one night: an afternoon and evening aboard, followed by a morning excursion before returning to port.
  • Three days and two nights: an extra full day for farther excursions. Many programs use a separate day boat while the overnight ship follows its regular boarding schedule.

Cruising hours exclude the road journey unless a package expressly says otherwise. A two-day cruise is not 48 hours aboard, and a three-day cruise is not 72 hours. Compare the port check-in and disembarkation times as well as the number of nights.

Ha Long Bay itineraries

Four-hour day route: Thien Cung, Dau Go and Ba Hang

This shorter route suits travelers who want limestone scenery and cave visits with less time aboard. The private four-hour Ha Long cruise includes Thien Cung and Dau Go caves, plus kayaking or a bamboo-boat ride at Ba Hang.

The route also passes rock formations such as Incense Burner and Fighting Cock. These are sightseeing points from the boat, not places where you necessarily go ashore. Confirm the departure slot and total excursion time if you have a cruise-ship, train or flight connection.

Six-hour day route: Sung Sot, Luon and Titov

The private six-hour Ha Long cruise combines a walk inside Sung Sot Cave, kayaking or a rowed boat at Luon Cave, and an island stop at Titov, also written Titop.

Choose this route if these three attractions are your priority. The cave walk and Titov viewpoint involve steps; you can discuss alternatives before booking. Road transfers are priced separately for both private day-cruise packages above.

The elevated view from Titov requires a climb; choose the island activity that suits your group.

Two days and one night: the main sights with an overnight stay

A one-night cruise spreads the main Ha Long stops over an afternoon and the following morning. For example, Catherine’s two-day itinerary visits Sung Sot and Titov on the first day, then Luon the next morning.

This gives you dinner and a night on the bay without using three calendar days. If you have already visited the same attractions on a day cruise, check whether the overnight program adds enough to justify repeating them.

Three days and two nights: an additional excursion route

The extra day can add different places rather than simply more time at the same stops. Athena’s three-day program includes a separate day-boat excursion to Me Cung Cave and the Tung Sau pearl-farming area, alongside Sung Sot, Luon and Titov across the full trip.

For the vessel and cabin decision behind that route, read the Athena Cruise review, including its strengths, limitations, and pre-booking checks.

Confirm the final order of visits for your departure. Pack what you need for the middle day, since access to your cabin and the main ship’s facilities may be unavailable until you return.

What a Tung Sau pearl-farm stop adds

Tung Sau is a sheltered cove in Halong Bay and part of the wider Route 2 area. A cruise must name the pearl-farming visit in its own itinerary; buying a Route 2 ticket or booking a general Halong cruise does not guarantee that the vessel will stop there.

The visit can show how cultured pearls are raised, implanted, harvested and turned into jewelry. It also includes a showroom or retail element, so choose it when the craft process interests you rather than treating the stop as a purely natural attraction. Ask how the available time is divided between the explanation, the farming area and shopping if you would prefer more sightseeing.

You do not need to buy anything. If you consider jewelry, request a written description of the material, a receipt and the seller’s adjustment, return or after-sales terms before paying. A short cruise visit is not a practical setting for an independent appraisal, and a guide’s recommendation is not a substitute for documentation.

Lan Ha Bay itineraries

Day trips from Cat Ba or Tuan Chau

If you are staying on Cat Ba, a departure from Ben Beo keeps the starting point on the island. Routes can pass Cai Beo floating fishing village and continue into Lan Ha Bay. Check the actual kayaking, swimming and landing stops; a Viet Hai village visit is not included in every day trip.

From the mainland, the Catamaran Premium Day Cruise starts and finishes at Tuan Chau. Its main activities are kayaking or a bamboo-boat ride at Dark and Bright Cave, followed by the Frog Pond area, where you can swim or remain aboard.

Pick the departure point that fits your stay. A Lan Ha cruise leaving Tuan Chau does not automatically collect you from a Cat Ba hotel, and a Cat Ba day boat does not automatically return you to the mainland.

Two days and one night: compare the water stop and the Cat Ba cave

  • Dark and Bright Cave plus Hospital Cave: Calypso’s two-day cruise pairs kayaking or a rowed boat on the first afternoon with a visit to Quan Y, or Military Hospital Cave, on Cat Ba the next morning.
  • Tra Bau plus Trung Trang Cave: Aqua Luxury’s two-day cruise combines a Tra Bau kayaking and swimming stop with a next-morning visit to Trung Trang on Cat Ba.

Hospital Cave and Trung Trang are separate attractions. Both of these island excursions require a boat connection and road transport, followed by the cave visit on foot. If stairs or small-boat boarding are difficult for you, discuss the specific excursion before choosing the route.

Three days and two nights: Viet Hai and more time in Lan Ha

The three-day Calypso itinerary adds a middle-day excursion to Viet Hai, a village on Cat Ba reached from its pier by bicycle or an arranged electric car. The day boat then continues toward the Tai Queo kayaking area and Ba Trai Dao, or Three Peaches, before returning to the overnight ship.

The first afternoon retains Dark and Bright Cave, while the final morning visits Hospital Cave. This option suits travelers who want a village visit as well as time on the water. Confirm the electric-car arrangement if you do not cycle.

A stop near Ba Trai Dao does not guarantee a beach landing. Tides, conditions and the approved activity plan determine what you can do there. The name “Dark and Bright Cave” also does not guarantee entry into both passages.

Bai Tu Long Bay: two-day and three-day cruises

Hai Phong Tours does not offer a Bai Tu Long day cruise because the route is too far for our one-day program. Choose at least two days and one night to visit Bai Tu Long, or three days and two nights for an additional excursion day.

Vung Ha in an older or third-party itinerary

Do not confuse Vung Ha with Vung Vieng Fishing Village. Current Bai Tu Long cruises listed by Hai Phong Tours name stops such as Cap La, Cong Do, Vung Vieng and Thien Canh Son; Vung Ha is not a standard stop promised across those programs.

If another itinerary names Vung Ha, ask the operator to show where it fits on your sailing and whether the experience is scenic cruising, kayaking, swimming or a landing. These are different activities, and a photograph of a cove does not confirm access. Use the sailing-date itinerary rather than assuming that a nearby named place is included.

Two days and one night: Cap La or Cong Do, then Thien Canh Son

The Renea two-day itinerary visits the Cap La area for afternoon kayaking and other activities when conditions allow, followed by Thien Canh Son Cave the next morning. Ask about the tender-boat alternative if you prefer not to paddle.

Signature’s two-day cruise offers a different route choice around Cong Do or Vung Vieng, with Thien Canh Son on the final morning. Get the named first-day stop confirmed for your departure; do not assume that both Cong Do and the floating village are included.

Thien Canh Son is a cave visit on foot, with steps from the landing area. It is also known as Hang Co. A kayaking stop in the surrounding area is a separate activity.

Three days and two nights: an extra day boat excursion

The longer Renea package with HPT adds a day-boat outing to Vung Vieng and Cong Do between the Cap La afternoon and final Thien Canh Son visit. Confirm the departure-specific route before booking.

The three-day Signature program also uses a separate excursion boat on the middle day. Confirm the exact stops, whether a rowed boat is available and any activity charges for your sailing date. Seasonal and operating changes mean there is no single fixed itinerary followed by every Bai Tu Long boat.

Combining Ha Long and Lan Ha in one cruise

Look for a program that names excursions in both bays if visiting both is your priority. For example, Starlight’s three-day itinerary combines Sung Sot, Titov and Luon in Ha Long with a separate middle-day boat excursion into Lan Ha, including Dark and Bright Cave and the Ba Trai Dao area.

The overnight ship and excursion boat may follow different routes. Sailing through a bay on the way to another destination is also different from stopping there to explore. Ask for the full activity plan rather than relying on “Ha Long and Lan Ha” in the cruise name.

What to confirm before booking

  • Port and timing: the exact waiting lounge, boarding method, check-in deadline and return port. Tuan Chau, Ha Long International Cruise Port and Ben Beo are different departure points.
  • Transfer package: whether your actual hotel pickup and onward drop-off are included. A tender transfer to the ship is not a road transfer from Hanoi, Hai Phong or Ninh Binh.
  • Activities you can join: cave steps, cycling, kayaking and small-boat transfers, with agreed alternatives where needed.
  • The middle day: excursion-boat facilities, lunch, what to carry and whether you can remain on the main ship if you skip the outing.
  • Changes and costs: the sailing-date itinerary, included entrance and activity fees, and arrangements if weather or operating restrictions change the trip.

Start with the route that includes your priority places, then choose the ship and cabin. A shorter itinerary that fits your schedule and mobility is more useful than a longer list of stops you cannot comfortably enjoy.
