Archery in Hanoi: A Beginner Visit to AFC Archery Fun Club

Listen to this page Hands-free overview

For a beginner archery experience in Hanoi, AFC Archery Fun Club offers a supervised session with equipment at its Star Lake site in Tay Ho Tay. It is a useful choice for couples, friends or solo travelers who want an active break from museums and sightseeing. Book an introductory visit rather than a membership course, and arrange instruction in a language you understand.

The most important arrival detail is the entrance: use the gate on Xuan Tao Road, not the former gate on Vo Chi Cong. The club is within the Star Lake development rather than on the tourist-facing West Lake promenade, so plan a separate car journey from the Old Quarter or lakeside hotels.

What the experience offers

AFC provides bows, arrows and protective equipment for its visitor sessions, with coaching for first-time participants. You do not need to bring your own archery kit. The club has different shooting distances, including a beginner format and longer-range options for people with more experience.

For a first visit, choose the introduction that gives you enough guidance and a comfortable starting point. A longer target distance is not automatically a better experience or better value. Tell the staff that you are new before they allocate equipment and a place to shoot.

The appeal is having time to try something repeatedly, pause and improve during one session. It works well as the main activity in a relaxed morning or afternoon. If your group mainly wants a quick photo opportunity, a coached sports session may feel like more commitment than you intended.

Find the current entrance

Save AFC Archery Fun Club, Star Lake Tay Ho Tay, Xuan Tao Road, Hanoi. For the final approach, the useful map search is “Cổng Vào AFC Club”. Show the driver that gate location as well as the club name.

When approaching from Hoang Quoc Viet, the club’s directions place the Xuan Tao gate at the corner of the second roundabout. After entering, follow the asphalt road toward the AFC sign. Have the club’s latest entrance pin ready rather than asking a driver to navigate solely from an older street address.

The former Vo Chi Cong entrance is closed. An old reference to 79 Vo Chi Cong can therefore send you to the wrong side of the site. If the drop-off does not match the Xuan Tao gate instructions, contact the club before ending your ride.

Reserve a visitor session, with the right instruction

AFC’s contact number is 0353 032 094, or +84 353 032 094 internationally. Its email is afcarchery@gmail.com. The club’s online reservation form asks for your date, arrival window, number of players and additional requests; it uses an email verification step to complete the booking.

State that you want a beginner experience, how many people will actually shoot and whether anyone needs instruction in English. An English-language website is useful for planning, but it does not reserve an English-speaking coach. Have that arrangement confirmed with the session.

For friends who want to play together, request nearby positions rather than assuming separate reservations will be placed side by side. If someone is coming only to watch, establish their access and any charge separately. A booking for two players and two spectators is different from a four-player booking.

Compare the package, not only the price

Ask for the current beginner-session total and the playing time it includes. Check that the quote covers equipment, protective items and the instruction you need, and establish whether any arrow-use or lane-sharing limit applies. Do not assume a private lesson simply because a coach is present.

As a planning allowance, leave roughly two hours for arrival, the introduction, practice and breaks, then add the journey from your hotel. Your purchased session determines the actual playing entitlement. Confirm its duration and latest starting time before placing dinner or another booking immediately afterward.

A single introductory session is generally the sensible starting point during a short Hanoi stay. Membership and training packages suit a different decision: returning regularly to develop the skill. Compare those only when you have enough time in the city to use them.

Children, weather and what to wear

AFC offers a children’s format, but a child-sized package does not mean every young child can participate. Give the child’s age and height when reserving, ask the coach about suitability and remain responsible for supervision. Do not plan the session as drop-off childcare.

The site has indoor and outdoor arrangements. If avoiding sun or rain is important, ask which space your booking will use and what happens if weather interrupts it. Reserve a covered position explicitly when needed; the presence of an indoor area does not guarantee that every booking is protected from the weather.

Wear neat, comfortable sports clothing that allows movement, with secure shoes. Avoid loose accessories that could get in the way, and bring drinking water for the time between attempts. Let the coach fit the protective equipment and explain the venue’s rules before you begin.

Stay behind the designated waiting line until instructed, and leave equipment handling and arrow collection to the session’s rules. Keep phones and spectators out of the shooting area. A first experience should follow the coach’s supervision throughout rather than becoming an unsupervised photo session.

Fit archery into a Hanoi day

Give the session its own block of time, then choose a meal or coffee stop on the same side of the city. Check the road journey from your hotel and arrange a pickup at the correct entrance afterward. Avoid squeezing the activity between two tightly timed sightseeing appointments.

If you prefer climbing and a fully indoor gym setting, compare Hanoi’s indoor bouldering options. That is a separate activity with different equipment and introductory arrangements. Choose whichever interests your group, then make one well-planned first visit instead of crossing the city to sample several sports in a rush.
