Fansipan Tickets: Cable Car, Mountain Trains and Booking

Listen to this page Hands-free overview

You can buy Fansipan tickets online or at the ticket counter. Buy online when your visit date and ticket choices are settled; use the counter if you need help choosing the right combination or want to decide after checking conditions in Sa Pa.

The main cable car and the two mountain trains are separate parts of the journey. A ticket advertised as a round trip may cover only the cable car. Check each included ride before paying, especially if you want to start in Sa Pa town and use the upper train near the summit.

Which Fansipan tickets do you need?

Muong Hoa mountain train: Sa Pa town to the cable car base

The Muong Hoa funicular starts at Sun Plaza in central Sa Pa and finishes at Muong Hoa station. From there, you walk through the base area to Hoang Lien cable car station. This is the lower mountain train, not the train near the summit.

You can skip this train if you travel by road to the cable car base. If you take the train out but arrange a taxi back, compare the available ticket options before buying a bundle.

Fansipan cable car: Hoang Lien station to Fansipan station

This is the main aerial journey up the mountain. Standard cable car tickets are sold for the outward and return rides, but read the inclusions of the product you choose. Keep your ticket available for the journey down.

The cable car reaches Fansipan station below the summit. It does not deliver you directly to the summit marker, and a cable car ticket alone does not automatically include either mountain train.

Upper mountain train: Do Quyen station to Truc May station

Above the cable car arrival area, the Fansipan funicular connects Do Quyen and Truc May stations. It reduces the stair climb toward the summit, but some steps remain after the upper station.

Check whether your chosen ticket covers the uphill ride, downhill ride or both. An uphill-only ticket leaves you needing to walk down the steps or arrange a separate downhill ride. If steps are difficult for anyone in your party, ask about the complete walking route before paying; a train-inclusive package is not a promise of step-free access.

Choose a combination that fits your starting point

  • Starting at Sun Plaza and happy to climb the summit steps: look for the Muong Hoa train and return cable car. The upper train is optional.
  • Arriving by taxi at the cable car base: start with the return cable car, then decide whether you want the upper train. You do not need the lower train just to reach the cable car.
  • Wanting both trains: compare a bundle with the same rides bought separately. Check the return entitlement for each train.
  • Considering a buffet combo: check the restaurant, meal period and where it fits into your route. A meal adds value only if you intend to use it.

Buying Fansipan tickets online

Use Sun World’s official booking website or Sun Paradise Land app and select Sun World Fansipan Legend. Choose the date, ticket type and number of guests before comparing the final total. The official online process issues electronic tickets with a QR code; keep those tickets accessible on your phone for entry.

A travel platform may sell a different bundle or issue a voucher with its own collection instructions. Before paying, check whether you receive the entry ticket directly or must exchange a voucher, and whether the purchase needs processing time. Online purchase can avoid the ticket-buying queue, but it does not automatically include priority boarding.

Compare identical inclusions rather than the lowest advertised starting price. A cheaper cable-car-only offer can cost more overall once you add the trains or meal you actually want.

Buying at the counter

There are ticket counters at the cable car departure area, and the Sun Plaza station is the starting point for buying the lower train journey from town. Tell the staff where you are starting, which trains you want and how you plan to return.

The counter is useful when you want help with children’s ticket categories or the route. Allow extra time for queues, particularly on weekends and holidays, and check that ticket sales and your required rides are operating before leaving your hotel. Do not treat the park’s closing time as the last time you can buy a ticket and begin a complete visit.

Check the date, price and conditions before payment

  • Use date: select the actual visit date and read its validity conditions. Do not assume an online ticket can be used on any day within a week.
  • Guest category: follow the height bands and eligibility rules shown for that ticket. For resident or nationality-specific offers, check the required identification before choosing the discount.
  • Included rides: identify the cable car, lower train, upper train and each return journey separately.
  • Changes and cancellation: read the terms of your particular seller and ticket. Do not assume a date change is available or that every purchase has the same refund policy.
  • Final price: use the amount shown for your date and party, including any extras. Old price-board photos and screenshots may not match the current offer.

Avoid paying twice after an online error

On a previous Sa Pa trip, we retried an apparently failed online purchase and then bought tickets at the counter. The online purchase later turned out to have succeeded, leaving two sets of tickets for the same visit.

If a payment screen fails, stop before buying again. Check your booking account, confirmation email and spam folder. Look for an order number and issued tickets; a bank notification alone does not tell you whether usable tickets have been delivered.

If the status is unclear, contact the seller with the order details and payment reference. Ask whether the first order was issued before making a replacement purchase. Keep the relevant messages and receipts, and do not count on a duplicate purchase being refundable.

Before leaving your hotel

Check the day’s operating notices, mountain weather and return times for every ride you plan to use. Conditions at the summit can differ from those in Sa Pa town, and having a valid ticket does not guarantee a clear view.

Leave time for station walks, queues, summit steps and the journey back. The right purchase is the combination that covers your route and return, with conditions you understand before payment.
