A cruise advertised as visiting two bays may spend its activity stops mainly in Lan Ha. If Sung Sot Cave, Titov Island or Luon Cave matters to you, choose a Halong itinerary that specifically includes it rather than relying on the bay names in the tour title.

Choose a Halong Bay day cruise with the stops you want. Classic programs may include Sung Sot Cave, Titov Island and Luon Cave, but the exact combination depends on the vessel and route. Check how much of the day is spent cruising and how much is devoted to shore activities.
Arrange pickup from your starting point or meet at the boat’s confirmed terminal. After the cruise, transfer to your hotel in Halong or return to your Hai Phong base. Keep the evening flexible rather than booking another activity against the earliest possible port arrival.
Day 2: a Lan Ha Bay day cruise from Tuan Chau
The Catamaran Premium Day Cruise is an option for visiting Lan Ha Bay from Tuan Chau. Its itinerary includes the Dark and Bright Cave area and Frog Pond, with water activities subject to conditions. This departure does not require an overnight stay on Cat Ba Island.
Confirm the pickup package, boarding time and final return before arranging your onward journey. The cruise’s Hai Phong or Halong pickup arrangements depend on what you book; do not assume that a ticket for the boat includes every road transfer.
After the second cruise, continue to your confirmed hotel or onward destination. Allow time for disembarkation and luggage before meeting the next vehicle.
Choose your hotel base
Halong: less driving between cruise days
A hotel in Halong is the more convenient base when your priority is reducing road travel. Choose its location after identifying both ports. Tuan Chau and Halong International Cruise Port in Bai Chay are separate places, so a hotel close to one is not automatically close to the other.
Ask the hotel about luggage storage before check-in or after check-out. Give both cruise providers the hotel name and check whether pickup reaches that address.
Hai Phong: keep an existing hotel base
Hai Phong works if you already have a room there, want to leave your main luggage at the hotel or need to return to the city after the trip. The trade-off is the extra drive after day one and back to Halong on day two.
If pickup is not included in your selected cruise, the Hai Phong to Halong transfer can cover the outbound road journey to the agreed terminal. Arrange each return or onward leg explicitly rather than assuming it is included in a one-way booking.
Can you reverse the two days?
Yes. Visit Lan Ha first and Halong second if that better fits cruise availability, your arrival point or the onward journey. Compare the exact schedules before deciding.
Both bays can be busy, especially around popular stops and holiday departures. Do not choose the order on a promise that Lan Ha will be quiet at weekends. The boat, passenger numbers, route and time at each stop matter more than the bay name alone.
Starting from Hanoi or Ninh Binh
Check whether the first day’s cruise can collect you from your actual address and still meet its boarding deadline. Hanoi pickup is often limited to a defined area. Ninh Binh pickup may require an early departure, a separate vehicle or travel to Halong the previous evening.
