Love Waterfall and Silver Waterfall, Sapa: Walking and a Half-Day Route

Listen to this page Hands-free overview

Choose Love Waterfall for a forest walk; choose Silver Waterfall for a shorter stop on Sapa’s mountain road. Both lie along the QL4D corridor toward Lai Chau, so you can combine them in a half-day outing. Their entrances and walking routes are separate, and neither full visit is step-free.

Love Waterfall, or Thac Tinh Yeu, takes you into Hoang Lien National Park beside Golden Stream. Silver Waterfall, or Thac Bac, is close to the highway, with a stepped viewing route and a bridge across the cascade. If your time is limited, decide how much walking you actually want before paying for a two-waterfall itinerary.

Choose one waterfall or visit both

  • For time among trees: prioritize Love Waterfall. Allow roughly 1.5–2 hours at the site for the outward walk, pauses and return, adjusting for your pace.
  • For a brief scenic stop: choose Silver Waterfall. Around 30–45 minutes is a reasonable planning allowance for the viewing route without rushing the steps.
  • For both waterfalls: keep approximately 3–4 hours free from central Sapa, including road travel. Add more time for lunch or a paid viewpoint farther along the pass.
  • For a visitor avoiding steps: do not book either full route on the assumption that “easy waterfall” means accessible. Discuss the entrance and lower viewing area with your driver or the site before committing.

These are flexible visit allowances rather than tour schedules. A family with small children, a photographer or someone taking frequent rests should leave more room. If you are choosing between the waterfall road and a valley outing, the wider guide to experiences in Sapa helps you divide your available days.

Love Waterfall: the walk is part of the visit

The Love Waterfall entrance is in the Tram Ton area, roughly 14 km from central Sapa on the road toward Lai Chau. Ask for Suoi Vang – Thac Tinh Yeu, the Golden Stream and Love Waterfall visitor area. A request for “the national park” is too broad: Hoang Lien also has separate trekking and forest routes.

Plan for approximately 1.5 km of walking each way, or about 3 km out and back. The visitor path passes through forest and follows the stream toward the waterfall, with changes in level and stepped sections. This is a manageable nature outing for many walkers, but you still have to walk back after reaching the cascade.

Golden Stream adds something different from the waterfall viewpoint. Take time to look at the water over the rocks, the bamboo and the changing canopy rather than treating the path as a transfer between the gate and a photograph. On a day when distant mountains disappear into cloud, nearby forest details can remain rewarding, provided the trail is open and conditions are suitable. For a slower outing focused on identifying birds, compare the Sapa birdwatching options before booking a standard sightseeing trip.

Wear shoes that grip wet stone. A stroller is a poor choice for the full route; anyone carrying a child needs to be comfortable with the distance and uneven footing. Before starting, settle a realistic pickup time that includes the return walk, not just the time needed to reach the waterfall.

The sightseeing path is distinct from a Fansipan mountain trek. Follow the marked visitor route and entrance instructions; a waterfall ticket is not permission to set out on other park trails.

Silver Waterfall: roadside access with a real climb

Silver Waterfall is about 12 km northwest of central Sapa, beside QL4D. Its location makes it easy to add to the journey toward Love Waterfall, but the full viewing experience involves more than stepping out of a car.

Inside the ticket checkpoint, the lower viewing area leads to a constructed path with steps, railings and resting shelters. The route climbs beside the water toward an arched metal bridge, where you can see the cascade above and below. Follow the direction signs for the ascent and descent.

The lower view and bridge view serve different visitors. If you enjoy short climbs, the bridge gives you a closer relationship to the falling water. If stairs are uncomfortable, decide whether the lower area is worthwhile before buying a ticket; do not feel obliged to complete the circuit because you have already started.

Keep to the constructed viewing route rather than trying to reach the top of the waterfall over rocks. Spray can leave steps wet even when rain has stopped. Road traffic is also part of this setting, so arrange a proper parking and pickup point instead of stepping into the highway for a wider photograph.

Tickets, opening arrangements and the right entrance

Budget separately for the two attractions. Love Waterfall’s listed admission is VND 70,000 per adult and VND 30,000 per child. Confirm the applicable child category and current charge before payment. Silver Waterfall has its own ticket checkpoint; check the displayed tariff there, and carry small Vietnamese dong notes for admissions and incidental costs.

A driver’s quote may cover transport and waiting only. If booking a package, establish whether both entrance tickets, parking and any guide are included. A visit to Cong Troi O Quy Ho or Rong May Glass Bridge is another purchase unless your package specifically includes it.

For Love Waterfall’s current trail access and final admission time, the Hoang Lien tourism center can be reached at 0985 834 581, or +84 985 834 581 from an international number. Plan the walk in daylight and leave enough time to return to the entrance before the site closes.

In a taxi booking, use the attraction name and map location. Thac Bac is also a street name in central Sapa; “Thac Bac Street” is not the waterfall entrance on QL4D.

A half-day route that leaves time to enjoy the forest

Agree on a return vehicle from Sapa with waiting time at both entrances. The waterfalls are close enough to combine by road, but walking along the mountain highway between them adds traffic exposure without extending the forest experience.

  1. Travel toward Tram Ton. Silver Waterfall comes first from Sapa, with Love Waterfall farther along the same road corridor.
  2. Give Love Waterfall your main walking slot. If this is your priority, it is reasonable to go there first and make Silver Waterfall a return stop. That keeps the longer walk from being squeezed by earlier delays.
  3. Add Silver Waterfall according to your energy. Leave time for the steps rather than treating the stop as a five-minute photo.
  4. Decide on the pass afterward. Continue toward O Quy Ho only if visibility, road conditions and your remaining time make the extension worthwhile.

For the extension, use the O Quy Ho Pass and Heaven Gate guide to distinguish the mountain road from paid visitor complexes. Adding waterfalls, a glass bridge, a long lunch and sunset viewing turns a compact outing into a much longer day.

Choose conditions, not just a month

Water flow changes through the year. Wetter periods can bring a fuller cascade, but also slippery walking surfaces, heavier spray and disruption on the approach road. A dramatic waterfall is not a reason to continue during a closure or heavy-rain warning.

In drier weather, judge the visit by the experience you want: Silver Waterfall depends more on the immediate cascade, while Love Waterfall also offers the forest and stream walk. Mountain views from O Quy Ho are a separate weather-dependent bonus; clear weather in central Sapa does not promise a clear pass.

Treat this as a walking and viewing trip. Stay behind barriers, keep children close near the stream and do not build swimming or climbing on wet rocks into the itinerary. Ropes and technical descents shown in canyoning promotions belong to a separate specialist activity, not ordinary waterfall admission.

If you have a half-day and enjoy walking, make Love Waterfall the main outing and add Silver Waterfall when time and energy allow. If you only want a short stop on the mountain road, Silver Waterfall is the simpler choice, with the steps factored into the plan.
