Legend of Mua mountain
Legend has that when Tran King returned to Hoa Lu to build Am Thai Vi, he often came here to hear the women singing and dancing. Therefore, this place was named Mua moutain. Mua in Vietnamese means ” Dance”.
What to expect
Mua Cave is located at the foot of Mua Mountain. It is shaped like a large bell face upside down, about 800m2 wide. There is a rocky hill dotted with nearly 500 steps leading to the top. A winding road running around the mountain, which is covered in towers, making it look like a miniature Great Wall. Two sides of the road are decorated with sophisticated stone statues of dragons and phoenixes. They were built in the Tran Dynasty’s artistic style (1225-1400).
On the top of the mountain is placed a statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara with eyes down to the ancient capital. With peaceful looks and a panoramic view over a large area of Hoa Lu.
Dance Mountain has been around for a long time but has only been exploited for tourism since 2000. At this time, this place is known for the Dance Cave Observatory – the only natural observatory in Ninh Binh. It is 142m high and 800m2 wide. In the center of the monument is a large, ancient green artificial moss lake. Extremely beautiful space by trees shady.
In addition, there are many mysterious caves deep into the mountain. Going from the entrance gate, you will come across impressive areas with tree houses, water houses in the middle of the lake, terraced flower gardens and rows of motels located close to the foot of the mountain.

Mua mountain itself is not impressive, but panoramic views from the peak above. With absolute greenery on all the sides, visitors can see the rocky hills grouped leading up to the horizon, with the river navigating in between. They will feel so tranquil when they sit on a rock at the top.

In particular, to the west is the Ngo Dong river winding through Tam Coc, the other sides afford a view of lush rice fields. In May and June, when Tam Coc is in the ripe rice season, the picture of “golden season” of ripe rice fields mixed with green water is beautiful. This is also the most beautiful travel time.
