For Vietnamese food in District 7, choose Phở Trang for a bowl of beef noodles, Bò Lá Lốt Tân Quy for grilled beef rolls, or Ốc Liên for an evening of shellfish dishes. Lẩu Dê 404 suits a group sharing goat hotpot, while Sushi 88 in Him Lam offers Japanese-style rolls and cooked dishes.
Choose the meal around where you are staying or spending the day. Phú Mỹ Hưng, Him Lam and the streets around Nguyễn Thị Thập are separate dining areas; combining several restaurants can involve more travel than eating. For a first visit, one main meal is usually a better plan than trying to complete a long food list.
Where to eat for your kind of meal
- Breakfast, lunch or a simple solo meal: Phở Trang. Choose one branch and a specific beef topping.
- A local dinner with rice-paper rolls: Bò Lá Lốt Tân Quy at 24 Đường 67. Order grilled beef and assemble the rolls at the table.
- Several seafood plates to share: Ốc Liên at 39 Lê Văn Lương. Agree on the species, cooking style and portion price.
- A longer group meal: Lẩu Dê 404 at 12 Đường số 41. Start with a hotpot and add other goat dishes according to your group’s appetite.
- A Japanese-style dinner in Him Lam: Sushi 88 at 44–46 Đường số 14. Check whether each roll contains raw fish, cooked seafood or vegetables.
Phở Trang: choose the branch and beef cut
Phở Trang is a useful choice when you want a complete meal in one bowl. The menu distinguishes traditional beef phở from larger or more elaborate options such as beef-rib phở, and from phở trộn cay, noodles mixed with a spicy sauce.
These District 7 addresses let you choose a branch near your route:
- 420 Phạm Thái Bường: the Phú Mỹ Hưng location.
- 503A Huỳnh Tấn Phát: an alternative along the Huỳnh Tấn Phát corridor.
- 30K Hoàng Quốc Việt: use the full 30K address when searching, rather than dropping the letter from the shop number.
For an ordinary bowl, tái means thin beef slices briefly cooked in the hot broth, nạm is brisket, bắp is shank and gân is tendon. Tendon is chewy and gelatinous; it is not another name for a lean meat slice. Ask for a chosen combination if you do not want an assorted đặc biệt bowl.
If you want thoroughly cooked beef, say cho thịt chín kỹ. Keep chili and table sauces separate until you have tasted the broth. For a child or light eater, ask whether a smaller serving is available before ordering a large specialty bowl.
Best for: a straightforward individual meal. Check opening hours for the exact branch, especially for an early breakfast, and compare the price of your selected bowl rather than assuming every phở option costs the same.
Bò Lá Lốt Tân Quy: grilled rolls you assemble yourself
Address: 24 Đường 67. Search for Bò Lá Lốt Tân Quy with this street number.
Bò lá lốt is seasoned minced beef wrapped in aromatic wild betel leaves and grilled. The cooked leaf stays around the meat and is eaten with it. At Tân Quy, rice noodles, greens and rice paper turn the beef into a fuller meal.
To assemble a roll, place some greens and noodles on the rice paper, add a grilled beef roll, then fold and roll it into a manageable bundle. If the paper is too stiff, ask staff whether that type needs moistening first. You can also eat the beef with the noodles without wrapping everything.
The rich bơ topping is optional: ask for không bơ if you would rather leave it off. This does not establish that the rest of the dish is dairy-free. Peanuts and fried shallots may also be added, so make any ingredient request before the plate is finished.
The usual mắm nêm dip is a strongly flavored fermented fish sauce. If you prefer a different dip, ask what alternatives are available; ordinary nước mắm is also fish-based. Diners avoiding pork should ask about the minced filling rather than assuming a beef dish contains beef alone.
Best for: a late-afternoon or evening local meal. Ask how many beef rolls come in one portion and whether extra rice paper, noodles and greens cost more. Start with a modest order if you plan to eat elsewhere afterward.
Ốc Liên: shellfish plates on Lê Văn Lương
Address: 39 Lê Văn Lương.
An ốc meal can include sea snails, clams, oysters and other shellfish, not just one kind of snail. At Ốc Liên, nghêu hấp Thái, clams in a Thai-style spicy and sour preparation, is one option to recognize. Ốc hương is a type of sea snail; choose its cooking style separately.
A balanced shared order might combine one steamed dish with another cooked with garlic or tamarind, instead of covering every plate in the same rich sauce. Ask which shellfish are available that day and how each portion is measured. The cheapest item on a sign is not a reliable guide to the cost of larger shellfish or a full seafood dinner.
For two people, two shellfish plates and a noodle or rice dish can be a sensible starting order, adjusted to the portions on offer. Ask staff to point out any bones, sharp shell pieces or parts you should not eat if the species is unfamiliar.
Best for: an afternoon or evening meal with someone happy to share. If you are sensitive to chili, request ít cay for less heat or không cay for no chili, and ask whether the sauce can actually be adjusted.
Lẩu Dê 404: a shared goat meal at Đường 41
Branch: 12 Đường số 41, An Phú Hưng residential area. Use the full branch name, Hệ thống Lẩu Dê 404 Quận 7 – Đường số 41, when navigating.
The goat hotpot is the natural starting point for a group. The menu also includes grilled and steamed goat, ribs, curry and stir-fried dishes. Choose a hotpot size first, then add one contrasting dish if needed; several meat plates followed by a large pot can be more food than expected.
Not every goat-menu item is an ordinary meat cut. Sườn dê means goat ribs, while vú dê refers to udder and cật dê to kidney. Tell staff if you prefer meat without offal, and ask what the mixed hotpot contains before ordering it.
For a pot with ingredients to cook at the table, ask staff to explain what is already cooked and what needs cooking. Check whether vegetables, noodles and additional meat trays are included or priced separately. A plate placed beside the pot is not necessarily a free accompaniment.
Best for: a lunch or dinner where the group has time to sit and share. Reserve with the Đường 41 branch for a larger party. The similarly numbered Đường 15B branch and other restaurants with similar “404” names are different destinations.
Sushi 88: Japanese-style dinner in Him Lam
Address: 44–46 Đường số 14, Him Lam residential area.
Sushi 88 has maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi and cooked dishes. Sushi does not automatically mean raw fish: the roll menu includes fried-salmon, avocado and cucumber options alongside raw-fish combinations. Check the entire roll, including anything placed on top, if you want a fully cooked order.
The menu’s bơ in maki cá hồi bơ means avocado. It is a different use of the word from the rich topping discussed at Bò Lá Lốt Tân Quy. Chiên xù means breaded and fried, while phô mai means cheese.
For a group with different preferences, choose a cooked dish and a few individual rolls before ordering a large sushi combination. Confirm the number of pieces in each serving and the contents of any mixed platter. A vegetable-named roll still needs an ingredient check if you avoid egg, dairy or fish-based sauces.
Best for: dinner when you are already in Him Lam or want a Japanese-style alternative to Vietnamese food. Check the day’s first and last serving times before an early or late visit.
Keep the meal plan practical
For a brief stop in Phú Mỹ Hưng, Phở Trang on Phạm Thái Bường is a simpler plan than traveling between several restaurants. For a local evening meal, choose bò lá lốt or shellfish according to what your group wants to eat. For an occasion, choose the goat restaurant or Sushi 88 and allow time for shared dishes.
Enter both the restaurant name and street in your ride app. District 7 has several numbered roads, so “Street 14” or “Street 41” alone is not a sufficient destination. Keep the residential-area name where one is given, and check the pin before confirming the ride.
Carry some Vietnamese cash and ask about card or other payment options before ordering. For shared meals, confirm the portion size, included accompaniments and any drinks or extra trays as you go. If you are making a special trip for a particular dish, confirm its availability with that branch first.
