The most efficient version flies south from Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong after the cruise, provided a suitable flight is available and the connection allows for disembarkation, the road transfer, and airport procedures.
This plan starts with arrival in Hanoi on Day 1. It gives you four nights: one in Hanoi, one aboard the cruise, and two in Ho Chi Minh City. A full Ben Tre day trip on Day 5 works best if you can stay another night; if your flight home is on Day 5, move Ben Tre to Day 4 or keep the final day in the city.

Day 4: Ho Chi Minh City or Cu Chi

Ben Tre offers a change from the cities and the bay: rivers and smaller waterways, coconut groves, and workshops producing coconut sweets. Day trips can combine boat travel with village walking or cycling. Check the actual itinerary, since stops, boat sections, cycling, and meals vary between programs.
Allow a full day from Ho Chi Minh City. The road journey is around two hours each way in favorable conditions, with longer travel possible depending on your hotel, the part of Ben Tre visited, and traffic. A published city-return time is not a guaranteed airport-arrival time.
If you fly home on Day 5, move Ben Tre to Day 4. Keep Day 5 for nearby sightseeing and the airport transfer. If Cu Chi is more important to you, choose that excursion instead of trying to include both outside-city trips in the remaining time.
A late flight may allow a specially arranged Ben Tre program ending at the airport, but agree the route, luggage arrangements, latest departure from Ben Tre, and flight buffer before booking. An early or afternoon flight is a reason to stay in the city that day.
