Dragon Beach at Doi Rong: A Practical Do Son Guide

Listen to this page Hands-free overview

Dragon Beach is the man-made swimming beach at Doi Rong, also called Dragon Ocean Do Son, in Hai Phong. Choose it for a planned beach outing with sand, swimming and on-site services. It is a developed leisure venue, with separate attractions around it, rather than an undeveloped stretch of the Do Son coast.

The most useful distinction is between Dragon Beach, Thuy Tinh Water Park and Lagoon: they are different swimming or recreation areas. Decide which one you want before buying a ticket or arranging your drop-off. A beach visit can fill a relaxed half day; adding water slides or evening entertainment needs more time and the right admission package.

Understanding the Doi Rong names

  • Doi Rong / Dragon Ocean Do Son: the wider tourism and resort development in the Van Huong area of Do Son Ward, Hai Phong.
  • Legend Park: the entertainment complex within Dragon Ocean, covering several separately named attractions.
  • Dragon Beach / Bai Bien Rong: the sandy, man-made beach and seawater swimming area.
  • Thuy Tinh Water Park: the water-slide and pool attraction themed around the Vietnamese legend of Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh.
  • Lagoon: a separate saltwater lagoon recreation area. Do not use its name interchangeably with Dragon Beach.

Use the specific attraction name when speaking to a driver or ticket seller. A general Dragon Ocean map pin may lead to a different part of this large development.

What to expect at Dragon Beach

The beach has a broad stretch of imported sand, palms and a managed seawater area using a recirculating filtration system. This gives it a different setting from Do Son’s traditional coastal beaches. The beach and nearby square also serve as event spaces, so a visit can feel lively when group activities or performances are taking place.

Come here for an easygoing combination of swimming, time on the sand and a meal. If your priority is a quiet natural coastline or exploring a fishing community, the resort setting may be less appealing. For children who mainly want slides, make Thuy Tinh Water Park the main destination instead.

Filtered seawater still requires normal swimming precautions. Use the designated swimming area, follow flags and lifeguard instructions, and keep children within close reach. Leave the water when staff suspend swimming or when thunderstorms approach.

Showers, belongings and meals

Dragon Beach lists freshwater rinsing facilities, storage and flotation equipment among its services. Before changing, find the facilities you need and ask whether their use is included in your ticket or charged separately. Bring a towel, dry clothes and a bag for wet swimwear.

Con So Restaurant and a beach bar are part of the beach’s dining offer. Check the outlet’s opening time and menu before relying on a late meal. For seafood sold by weight, confirm the item, weight, cooking charge and total before ordering.

Kayaking, beach activities and group programs may also be available. Ask which sessions are running and what equipment or supervision is included; an attraction’s appearance in promotional photos does not make it part of a standard beach ticket.

Tickets and opening hours

Buy for the named attraction and your actual visit date. Individual and combination offers can cover different areas, and a hotel package can have different inclusions from a day ticket. Compare the total for the activities your group will use, rather than choosing a package only because it contains more attractions.

Before paying, check these details together:

  • The exact areas included, especially Dragon Beach versus Lagoon and the water park;
  • The adult and child categories, including any height-based conditions;
  • Swimming hours, last admission and whether leaving and returning is allowed;
  • Charges for lockers, showers, loungers, equipment and internal transport;
  • What happens if bad weather interrupts the activity.

Operating hours vary by attraction and season. An evening area staying open does not mean beach swimming continues after dark. The entertainment operator’s customer-service number is 0848 909 899; use it to confirm the beach schedule and current ticket options before making the trip.

Keep the booking confirmation available on your phone and check the seller’s name, selected date and ticket description. Promotions with an expiry date should not be treated as the normal year-round price.

Getting there from Hai Phong or Hanoi

Doi Rong is in coastal Do Son, beyond central Hai Phong. From a city hotel, Hai Phong Railway Station or Cat Bi Airport, a taxi or arranged car is convenient when carrying swimwear and bags. Send the driver the Dragon Beach entrance pin and agree on the return pickup point before getting out.

If you take a bus toward Do Son, check where it actually terminates and how you will complete the last part of the journey. Do not assume that a service advertised simply as going to Do Son stops at the beach gate.

From Hanoi, the road approach uses the Hanoi–Hai Phong expressway before continuing toward Do Son. Make the beach your main activity for a day trip and check the live journey estimate for both directions. A round-trip car arrangement is easier to coordinate than finding an unfamiliar pickup point after changing clothes or finishing an evening visit.

Within Dragon Ocean, ask about the current electric-vehicle route if combining distant zones. Confirm the fare, operating hours and last return; a large complex is not automatically comfortable to cross on foot in the midday heat.

A realistic beach-day plan

  1. Before leaving: check weather, swimming hours and the correct ticket. Pack lightly and settle your return transport.
  2. On arrival: locate the changing and storage facilities, choose a meeting point and check the supervised swimming area.
  3. Main visit: spend time swimming and relaxing on the sand, with shade and drinking-water breaks between activities.
  4. Before departure: allow time to rinse, change and collect belongings before your driver arrives or admission ends.

For a family, this can be enough for half a day. If adding another attraction, choose one that complements the beach rather than trying to cover the entire development.

Water slides, mangroves or evening lights

Thuy Tinh Water Park suits visitors who want larger slides, family water activities and a children’s play area. Give it a substantial part of the day and check ride-specific height and operating restrictions. A brief stop between other attractions is unlikely to give you much time after changing and queuing.

Dragon Mangrove Forest offers a boardwalk setting and organized activities such as kayaking. Ask which route and activities are available with the ticket you are considering. Wear footwear with grip, stay on the designated route and allow for a separate transfer from the beach.

Dragon Ocean Lighting Park is an option for illuminated displays after a daytime outing. Confirm that evening’s operation before extending your car booking. Beach performances and special events have their own programs; do not plan around a show solely because it appears in an older video.

Staying overnight or playing golf

Dream Dragon Resort provides an overnight option within the wider complex, with rooms, dining, an outdoor pool and a private-beach setting. Staying nearby can make sense if you want a beach afternoon followed by another activity the next day. Ask which facilities and attraction tickets belong to your room package, particularly when children are sharing a room.

Dragon Golf Links is a separate 27-hole golf facility in the development. Book the tee time and confirm the playing package directly; beach admission does not include golf. If golfers and non-golfers split up, arrange separate meeting points and transport so the beach group is not waiting at the clubhouse.

For most visitors, the best plan is one clear main activity: Dragon Beach for swimming and sand, Thuy Tinh for slides, or a resort stay for a slower break. Match the ticket and transport to that choice, then add another zone only if the day’s opening hours and your group’s energy allow it.
